I told the server I wanted an authentic Burmese dish that a native Burmese grandmother would approve of. She recommended the duck skin fried rice and I said "not oily." I searched Burmese duck skin fried rice on-line and came up with nothing! The dish was loaded with vegetables. The duck skin was not visible but it may have been incorporated. It was "heavy" due to use of brown rice. Some of the veggies were raw and finely chopped which I enjoyed. The menu was more pan-Asian with Chinese Jook, Singaporean laksa, Japanese inspired pork Katsu and a few great Burmese dishes. I went there hoping to find home style Burmese but learned it is more Asian Fusion.

For a modern take on Burmese food they are very good, with a particularly beautiful seafood laska, as well as a salmon ochazuke that is a huge favorite. Duck fried rice, platha, and brussels sprouts were all good, ditto for the sticky pork spareribs. Sneaky good was the deep fried cauliflower. I would skip are the garlic noodles and the coconut chicken curry noodles-- the rest of the menu makes them look ordinary. Inside is not that big and is a bit busy, the rear patio has more space and is pretty nice on a summer evening. Service was pretty good for our large group, too.

We initially wanted to go to Burma Superstar but it seemed that the location was too booked. My friend used to frequent Clement a lot especially during her grad school days, so she knew to ask the staff if we can have a table at B Star as they are owned by the same owner. They were able to accommodate us and we were sat at a table right when we walked over. Place was very nice, well lit and had enough seats for the overflow. This is probably my first time to have Burmese food and it did not disappoint. I would even say that I may have preferred this location as it was less crowded, the staff seemed to be very attentive and was able to take our orders right away, and the prices seemed to be very reasonable! We had the laksa, basil chicken, burmese chicken salad. I don't know which dish I liked the best but I would have to say it would probably be the tasty Laksa. The soup was thick but not too overwhelming. Next would be the Burmese chicken, I really liked the mix of mangoes and other tasty leaves. I will definitely revisit this spot, hoping to be able to arrive early enough to try it's sister company, Burma Superstar, to try the difference. But again, if Burma Superstar is full, I believe the menu is quite similar here and you'll get your money's worth for sure!

B Star not to be confused (but actually purposely so) with Burma Superstar. Sister restaurant but like different food but like very similar? Yeah I'm perplexed. But hey, what's not to be confused is that this place is actually good too. Burma superstar is the better of the two. But certainly you can't sleep on this one too. Tea leaf salad is one of the most flavorful salads I've ever had. It actually had me thinking that I liked vegetables for a minute. Very unique and special salad. No brainer. Coconut rice is outrageous. Like I would just eat this stuff straight. It's a feature in itself. Another very unique offering. The sticky finger pork rib-lets were just okay. Don't freak out about that. All in all B star stands as a pretty solid restaurant but Burma Superstar is the superstar here. (4.1 Stars)
